The project, which has experienced significant delays, aims to extract approximately 460 million barrels of oil from multiple fields in the remote Turkana county of Kenya. The goal is to export 130,000 barrels daily through an 895-kilometer pipeline to a terminal in Lamu Port.

The current phase of construction focuses on key horizontal infrastructure elements such as runways, drainage concrete works, earthwork platforms, aircraft parking areas, connecting taxiways, and internal service roads.

Situated about 40 kilometers south of Kigali, the new airport is slated for completion by the end of 2026.
